Reflection #-Bongwonsa temple and nature walk

The reason that creation, nature, and life prompt humans to seek out religion is the curiosity of the people who seek religion to find out how things have origin. People want to rely on some belief that can provide them with the answers that they wish would be answered. I believe that people spend their lives seeking religious truth, nurturing faith, and worshipping creation just for their idea of comfort. At Bongwonsa, the monk explained to us that our fears and worries are shadows trying to explain that the fears and worries are just an artificial idea that we planted in our minds. But, if we start to understand this and start to empty our minds and think of nirvana then all of those worries will go away. A religion is just there to support their cause of having fear and worries.

Relection #4 Meditation

I sat on my bed having my back against the wall and wondered “do I have to do this meditation thingy? I think this is a waste of time” but I decided to give it a try. I started my meditation with concentrating on my breathing. As I started to do that I thought about random stuff. I thought of what I have tomorrow for class and what is that noise outside. But as I thought of random stuff for about 5 minutes I started to think of other important things like my future. As I thought about the SAT, college, and my life in general I felt that I have so much ahead of me. Then I started to reflect on my past. I thought about what I have done wrong and what I have done right. After all of this I suddenly started to think of quiet and clamming landscapes and started to relax. After the meditation was over I felt very light inside as if someone took out my worries and stressed thought out of me. But, that feeling didn’t last long. I felt that I was back to the real world again.

Gandhi Reflection

Gandhi’s idea of Hinduism is the idea of unity and peace between different people. One part of the movie that shows this kind of idea was when Gandhi refused to put up an Indian up on the flag pole when India was independent and Pakistan split from India. He believes that this was a failure in life because he was not able to unite the whole country into one. When fights broke out between the Muslims and Hindus, Gandhi fasted for days in religious belief that the fighting will stop. Through this you can understand how badly he wanted to have unity.
“A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.” This quote perfectly explains why Gandhi lived out his life. Through many pain and suffering he led the concept of non-violence. Even when he was getting beaten by English soldiers he believed that through his sufferings he can make an independent and united India. He gave up his comfort because of the belief that he has to live as a Indian and be in the shoes of the people that are in the bottom. For his enemies through his suffering wanted to show them that the road that they have token is the wrong rode and needs to find a different path.
